Pinch pleat curtains - sometimes called triple pleat or french pleat - although you can create a twin pleat or even a single pleat sometimes called cartridge pleat. For pinch pleat we start by making up the curtains - pattern matched fabric, together with linings - we then create the pinch pleat heading by inserting a buckram stiffener between the layers of fabric and press and fold in the pinch pleats at regular intervals and then stitch the pleats into place.
Goblet pleat curtains - as the name implies, your curtains have a goblet pleated heading where each pleat is designed to look like a goblet. We start as before by making up the curtains and again we insert buckram into the heading between the layers of fabric, then instead of folding in a flat pleat and pressing we create a circular pleat running up and down in the heading which is then shaped to resemble a goblet and stuffed
Eyeletted curtains - curtains which have had eyelets pressed into the heading. Again we start by making up the curtains, and again we insert buckram between the layers of fabric, but then we use a hydraulic press to insert each eyelet into the heading. You then mount these curtains on a pole where the pole passes through the eyelets creating a sinuous effect. Eyelets are available in six colours.
Pencil pleat curtains - here the heading of the curtain is designed to look like a row of pencils - sometimes this heading is described as gathered. We start by making up the curtains and then we sew pencil pleat tape onto the back of the curtain at the top. Having stitched the tape on you then pull on the strings in the tape to gather the curtains to the desired width, and then you work at evening out the pleats along the heading so that the top of your pencil pleat curtains looks like a row of pencils.
Curtain linings - curtain lining is designed to protect your curtain fabric from the sun. We also have interlining - a blanket like looser woven cloth which hangs between the fabric and the lining. Interlinings are available in various weights and provide additional thermal and acoustic insulation, they also help lightweight fabrics hang well. We also have blackout lining, supersoft blackout lining which does not let light through but hangs beautifully. Curtain linings are also available in a wide range of colours.
Roller blinds - Possibly the simplest of all blinds, a roller blind is fabric rolled on a tube with a mechanism for raising and lowering. Roller Blinds are a window treatment familiar to all of us. Most roller blinds are sidewinder operated, with a roller chain - metal or plastic, roller blinds are also available with a sprung mechanism or fully motorised. Regular roller blinds or blackout roller blinds or voile roller blinds for privacy with a view.
Bottom up blinds - blinds which are fitted at the bottom of the window. You raise a bottom up blind for privacy. Usually a roller blind but you can use duette blinds or pleated blinds for this task or half height cafe shutters
Roman blinds - the structure of a roman blind is created by adding horizontal rods to the lining. As you raise the roman blind so it forms a series of pleats to stack at the top, thus a roman blind raised looks similar to a pelmet
Aluminium venetian blinds - available in a rainbow of colours, aluminium venetian blinds come in various slat widths and almost any size you want. Much lighter than wood slat venetian blinds, aluminium alloy was hailed as a wonder material that could be used to make longer straighter slats that would not warp under any extreme of temperature or humidity which makes them especially useful for kitchens and bathrooms.
Venetian blinds are basic slatted blinds made of metal or wood. Venetian blinds were patented by Edward Beran in London on 11 December 1769, but in reality Venetian blinds were invented by the Japanese long before then. The early history of the venetian blind is conjectural. The early Venetians, who were great traders, are thought to have brought the idea of the blind from Persia to Venice. The Venetian slaves, once freed, are then thought to have brought the blind to France for personal comfort and as a means of livelihood.
Wood slat venetian blinds - are very flexible in offering solutions to glare, shade and privacy both day and night. Wooden blinds complement modern decor and come in a wide range of stains and colours with varying slat widths. Wood slat venetian blinds are simple, they are elegant and they are functional. At Changing Curtains we have hundreds of different samples to choose from, we do have the finest bespoke english wood slat venetians in a range of fine timbers with either ladder cords or ladder tapes, however our best selling range is a wood slat blind that we cut to size.
Faux-Wood venetian blinds - very similar to Wood venetian blinds, but less likely to warp in damp or humid situations (bathrooms, wetrooms or conservatories), available in many excellent wood effect finishes plus modern greys and neutrals
Velux blinds - for velux windows. We only sell original velux blinds - not the copies, because original velux blinds work really well.. Blackout, privacy, duo or venetian we sell velux blinds at velux prices but also offer a fitting service on velux blinds we supply locally.
Voile blinds - a roller blind made from see through voile, an alternative to net curtains. We have voile roller blind fabric in many different colours and patterns
Vertical blinds - a series of louvres which hang vertically from a rail and which can be rotated or drawn back. Vertical blinds can be blackout or not as required.
Pleated & Duette blinds - A neat solution that stacks into a very tight space. Duette blinds have a honeycomb construction that provides extra insulation, blackout is available, and the cords are concealed inside the blind. Pleated blinds have a single concertina pleat with holes for the cords to run through. Pleated blinds are very popular in mainland Europe and are particularly suited to UPVC windows and doors. Options available include freehanging, roof, bottom up, bottom up and top down, and various shapes which is why they are so popular for conservatories.
Blackout / dimout blinds - blinds which block the light. Roller blinds, roman blinds, duette blinds and vertical blinds are all available as blackout. These blinds allow little or no light to pass through but you will get light wash at the edges
Plantation shutters - originally from the southern states of the USA and the West Indies plantation shutters usually hinge on either side of a window opening, and have louvres, or slats, that rotate open and closed to control light, visibility and airflow. Plantation shutters are described using different terms such as traditional shutters, California shutters, colonial shutters, american shutters, new england shutters or plantation shutters. Other interior shutters use solid panels that can be raised, recessed or flat, fabric inserts or stained glass. Plantation shutters can be configured in a single tier unit that has one shutter top to bottom of a window opening as well as multiple tiers. Multiple tier units feature separate shutters on each tier which allows the top shutters to be opened independently from the bottom shutters. Café type shutters or half height shutters refer to shutters that only cover the lower portion of a window.Full height shutters can be made with a horizontal divider rail which separates the upper and lower portions of the shutter. With operable louvered shutters this gives greater control as the louvers above the divider rail can be operated independently from the louvers below the divider rail. A tilt bar (rod) is used for adjusting louver position and to keep them in a uniform position it is possible to use what is termed a hidden tilt rod. Interior shutters can be constructed from any wood which can be painted or stained, we use basswood, paulownia, poplar and cedar, also available is MDF. The best quality shutters are now made with a laminated core to prevent the stiles from warping
Awnings & Canopies - Retractable awnings let owners control the weather on their own terms. When passing showers threaten, or when the sun gets hot, they or the fitted sensor unroll the awning for near-instant protection and shade. Lab test measurements show that it can be as much as 20 degrees cooler under an awning's canopy. Because awnings prevent the sun from shining through windows and sliding glass doors, they can keep temperatures inside cooler as well, which saves on air-conditioning costs. They can help prevent carpets and furniture from fading in sunlight. Awnings also provide a sheltered place for children and pets to play, shielded from direct sun.
Curtain Tracks & Curtain Poles - curtains need some form of track or pole to open and close. Curtain poles are made of wood or metal and can be bent for bay windows, corded curtain poles are also available. Curtain poles come in a wide variety of wood stains, metal finishes and paint colours. Curtain tracks are made from metal or plastic. Heavy duty metal curtain tracks bent for a bay window and corded are available, as are corded or uncorded straight curtain tracks. We also have nylon tracks which can be bent for a bay window hand draw only, we do not offer corded plastic tracks because there is not enough room in the track for proper insert pulleys or cord of reasonable thickness.
